Big changes in Massachusetts Auto Insurance
Effective April 1 2008 Massachusetts auto insurance changed from a state-regulated rate system, to a competitive system. The new system is called "Managed Competition", it gives the individual companies the ability, (with the commissioners approval) to set the rates as low as they want. They also have the ability to further lower their rates by applying many discounts, some are unique and are not available to all companies. Therefore, depending in your individual situation, one company may be the best fit for you, while another company may be better for your neighbor.
Some companies have now even instituted new and enhanced benefits such as "Accident Forgiveness".
Some but not all companies are now using new discounts such as: Excellent Driver, Excellent Driver Plus, "Advanced" Driver Training, Good Student, Student Away at School, Combined Auto & Home, Loyalty & New Customer Credit.
